Back to School/Do the Math: Counting too much on Calculators
- Question I asked that I can answer after reading the article:
- Question: Should calculators be used in schools?
- Answer: Depends... Not for basic calculations, but for harder equations, it is sometimes necessary.
- Question my teacher could answer if I asked:
- Question: How are teachers trying to solve this problem?
- Answer: They are trying to figure out if schools should use calculators or not.
- Question I can answer myself by inferring:
- Question: What direction does it look like the calculator issue is going?
- Answer: For some math, I believe the calculator will be allowed. For more difficult math, students should be able to understand how to do things without the calculator.
- Question I asked that I can answer after reading the article:
- Question: Are students counting too much on calculators?
- Answer: In this article, calculators aren't the problem but the way math classes are taught is. Students need to be taught the basics.
- Question my teacher could answer if I asked:
- Question: How are teaching trying to solve the problem?
- Answer: The Common Core Standards are looking to be implemented to help solve the math problems.
- Question I can answer myself by inferring:
- Question: Is math beyond the calculator needed?
- Answer: Technically, no. But understanding beyond the calculator is needed. Students need to know what is going on when they are doing an equation and why.
