Summary: Wiis are being incorporated into schools to increase interest in physical education. Some schools are offering specific Wii classes in place of regular gym P.E. classes.
Seaton's comment, "...the school seems to be pandering to the whims of those who are lazy", is an accurate statement to me. It seems that students are getting a "get out of jail free" card when it comes to physical education. However, I did like that the school in Kent required students to eventually take an outdoor course if they were to continue taking the Wii class. I think a good balance is necessary.
As a student who hated physical education classes, I like that more options are being offered. I know that I would have "opted out" of the P.E. classes if I had the choice, although I do see the benefits of having a traditional class, such as trying different activities, getting out of one's comfort zone, learning to work with others, and staying active.
Although one article mentioned that "Wiis burned four times as many calories as those who played video games sitting down," neither article mentioned how many calories were burned in P.E. class versus the Wii. I doubt the number would be close in comparison.
